Lowther Estate Cycle Trails

Cycle-Trails

The network of trails that run throughout the Lowther Estate lead cyclists through some of the most stunning of Lake District scenery. The trails are mainly traffic free, with a few sections of main roads, most of them quiet. Routes cater for all ages and abilities. Signposting is clear with circular routes taking in ancient woodlands, pastures and the River Lowther. Longer trails go to Ullswater and Haweswater. All trails are free to use.

Electric Bikes

The amazing electric bike can travel over 40 miles in a day. The ‘pedal-assist’ gives strength to even the least practised of cyclist. If you opt for a half day hire, you can still with ease cycle to the top of Askham Fell, take in the spectacular views of Ullswater, the charms of Pooley Bridge and make it back to Lowther Castle. Alternatively you can enjoy the circular route to Haweswater taking in Bampton Grange, via Knipe; Bonby and Rosgill Common before descending to Naddle Farm and the Four Mile reservoir, where the village of Mardale once stood.

Arragons Cycles

Lowther Castle is delighted to be working with Arragons Cycles to offer top quality cycle-hire. In 2017, the company was a regional winner in the Britain’s Best Bike Shop awards. The team is extremely knowledgeable and will ensure that riders embark on their trip with a well-fitted bike suitable for the trails.
